I worked at Samsung as a hourly contractor software engineer. They are new to Silicon Valley so I thought it would be interesting since I saw them really aggresively going after Apple. They have nice offices and facilities but thats where it ends unfortunately. They hired some smart people but I don't get a sense of direction or urgency. It seems the Korean Management felt they lack the Silicon Valley magic and opening an office might help them attract some smart engineers who will help them build the next iphone. Sadly they are going to learn it doesn't work that way. If Microsoft with its unlimited coffers, aggresive marketing and American management couldn't replicate it, how can a Korean company with bureaucratic management, sitting 12 hrs away, with no context of consumer taste or preferences do it. This is not an engineering problem. You can't match the specs of a competitor, undercut price and build your business. Thanks for creating so many American jobs- but truthfully its not going to help much.
It was OK
Got a great receptionist job and enjoy working here. Samsung is such a cool brand and all my friends are asking me to buy them stuff fromt eh company store- which I can't. I am a temp.
Worked at Samsung Research as a contract recruiter. Definitely not on par with other bay area companies in pay or job satisfaction. Too much deference to the overlords offshore. Just a bit weird compared to working for a US based company.
